2027 Ford Explorer Trims and Configurations

Five trims make up the 2027 Ford Explorer range: Active, ST-Line, Tremor, Platinum and ST. All five share the 10-speed automatic, the 13.2-inch touchscreen and a 5,000-pound tow rating when properly equipped, so the decision comes down to which engine, which drivetrain and how much equipment you want.

Here is how Mountain Home Auto Ranch Ford would frame the choice for an Idaho buyer.

Active and ST-Line: the 2.3L EcoBoost Trims

V

Both of these run the 300-horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost with 310 lb-ft, and both come far better equipped than an entry SUV usually does, with the full 13.2-inch screen, the digital cluster and Ford Co-Pilot360 driver assistance included rather than optional.

Active is the straightforward one. ST-Line borrows the ST’s sportier look without the V6 or the price that comes with it. Rear-wheel drive is standard on both and Intelligent 4WD is on the options sheet, which is the box most Idaho buyers will want ticked.

  • 300-hp 2.3L EcoBoost, 310 lb-ft
  • 13.2-inch touchscreen and digital cluster standard
  • Ford Co-Pilot360 included
  • Intelligent 4WD available on both
  • ST-Line adds the sport appearance treatment

Tremor: the Four-Wheel-Drive Explorer

V

Tremor is the trim built for unpaved Idaho, and it is the only Explorer sold exclusively with four-wheel drive. It comes with the 300-horsepower 2.3-liter EcoBoost as standard and offers the 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and its 415 lb-ft, which is the number that counts on a loose climb or with a trailer on behind.

Worth knowing before you compare option sheets: Tremor seats six and cannot be ordered with the second-row bench. New for 2027, V6 Tremors can take the Sun and Sound Package, adding upgraded B&O audio, massaging front seats and a power moonroof.

  • Standard Intelligent 4WD, no rear-drive version
  • Available 3.0L EcoBoost V6 with 415 lb-ft
  • Six-passenger only, bench not available
  • New Sun and Sound Package for 2027
  • Off-road hardware and unique exterior treatment

Platinum and ST: the Loaded Trims

V

Platinum is the comfortable one, with available quilted leather and BlueCruise hands-free highway driving equipped along with a complimentary plan. The 2027 news here is that Platinum can finally be ordered with the 3.0-liter V6, which brings its own wheel design and cabin details.

ST is the quick one, V6 only, also equipped with BlueCruise, and newly available with the Sinister Package: an exclusive wheel style and amber accent lights. Ford rates that V6 at up to 400 horsepower, and at 385 in California-emissions states.

  • Platinum gains V6 availability for 2027
  • BlueCruise equipped on both trims
  • Available quilted leather on Platinum
  • ST is V6-only with performance tuning
  • New Sinister Package on ST
